Podium delight for Lowes and Chareyre

This weekend saw Furygan riders contest the seventh round of MotoGP and Moto2 at Assen in The Netherlands, round seven of World Supersport at Imola in Italy and the fourth round of the FIM World Supermoto at Kuressaare in Estonia. Sam Lowes and Adrien Chareyre were the success stories of the weekend, scoring three podium between them.

Following a difficult start in the World Supersport race – which was red flagged and shortened to 14 laps after an oil spill from wild card rider Valentin Debise’s machine – Lowes clawed his way back through the pack to take second place come the flag. He also achieved the Pirelli best lap with a time of 1m51.607s.

Sam Lowes

In the beginning I felt the clutch slipped, so whilst trying to catch Foret, I missed the turn and ended up running on to the grass. To avoid any penalty, I rejoined the track after a few rivals went past. It was hard to make my way back through, but I managed and got the second position. I’m very happy, as it was a great day for all team and for us, Vladimir was great today!

The second and third podiums of the weekend came from Chareyre at the fourth round of FIM World Supermoto at Kuressaare. The French rider continued his consistent performance from the previous round to take a second position in qualifying, which he then converted into two second place finishes.

At Assen, Saturday’s Moto2 race proved an exciting battle with the front runners swapping places for the all-important podium spots. Esteve Rabat took an early lead in the race, but dropped down the order and found himself in a battle with fellow Furygan rider Johann Zarco. Rabat worked his way back to third, but a last lap mistake left him in fifth come the flag, while Zarco was not far behind in sixth. Mike Di Meglio crashed out of contention.

Esteve Rabat

I had a good race and I had the podium in my sights, but I made a mistake on the last lap and that ended my chances. Pol and Redding escaped me and I was unable to detach from Aegerter, Kallio and Zarco. Unfortunately I made a mistake on the last lap and I'm out of the 'draw' without a handful of points. It’s a shame but now I’m looking forward, first in Argentina for a test and then the race in Germany.

Johann Zarco

I am not happy about the result because I lost the sprint for the podium, but however it has been a positive weekend with good practices and a race done with good times and in the top positions. Now we go to Germany with the target to improve more and to finish on the podium.

Mike Di Meglio

I’m very disappointed for the team for the crash, which was my fault. I didn’t get the best of starts but I got into a rhythm, which was difficult to keep up as it was hard to pass people. Before the crash the bike felt really good and I’m happy with our performance over the weekend as a whole. Despite the disappointment I’m now looking forward to the next race as I’m getting better with the Moto2 machine all the time.

The MotoGP race was held in dry but cool conditions, with Michael Laverty starting 22nd on the grid. During the race, he maintained his performance around the twisty Dutch track to cross the line in 22nd place.

It was a difficult weekend for us at Assen due to the lack of dry set up time. We had a really strong pace in the wet but unfortunately that speed didn't transfer across to the dry although it was nice to be up amongst the prototypes during the wet sessions. After making good progress with the chassis settings in Catalunya we hoped that the good feeling would continue, however Assen required something different. I was involved in a race long battle with Yonny, Barbera, Staring and Corti so it was disappointing not to be able to progress though the group. Thanks to all the guys in the team for the hard work again this weekend and I look forward to Germany.
